Great Northern Diver, Gavia immer


Status

A rare winter and passage visitor, in recent years mostly on autumn migration. c25 records.

A scarce winter visitor. The longest stayer was the 2005-6 individual (see below). Two birds in 1990 was exceptional, one of these birds making a long stay from 11 November 1989 until 7 May 1990. A long-stayer was also noted in 1971, when a bird remained until 3 May. The most recent records have been in early winter.
