This bird has a fluctuating status in the UK, in line with varying winter weather. In periods of mild winter weather, the range expands and it is in these years when this species could potentially colonise the suitable habitat around Grafham Water. In 2005, a number of pairs arrived in the county and it is likely that it is only a matter of time before there are more records from Grafham Water.
